1. The required equipment tonnage is small

The partial continuous pressure forming of the blank by the rotary die, compared with the overall pressure forming of the die forging, the contact area between the tool and the workpiece is small, and the deformation force is small. Larger rings can be manufactured by using small tonnage equipment, which expands the Range of ring forming. For example, an automobile rear axle driven gear blank with a diameter of about φ400mm requires a die forging press of more than 80,000kN to manufacture, while a ring rolling press is only about 600kN: ring rolling can form a nuclear reactor vessel reinforcement ring with a diameter of φ10,000mm and a height of 4,000mm , which is difficult to form by other pressure processing methods.

2. High utilization rate of materials

Compared with die forging, ring rolling only needs to punch small holes, so the punching gap is small, and there is no flash and draft angle necessary for die forging. The cross-sectional size and shape of ring parts are closer to the finished product, which reduces The amount of cutting processing is reduced, and raw materials are saved.

3. Excellent internal quality

The deformation of ring rolling is radial compression and axial extension. The metal fibers of the ring are arranged continuously along the circumference, which is often adapted to the force and wear of the ring during use. Therefore, the ring rolling product has high strength, wear resistance, and excellent internal quality.

4. Good working conditions

Compared with general forging, there is no impact, no vibration, and low noise during ring rolling. The working conditions have been greatly improved, and it is easy to realize mechanization and automation.

5. Low production cost

The ring rolling process has comprehensive advantages such as high material utilization rate, less machining time, low production energy consumption, and long rolling pass life, so the production cost is low. For carbon steel rings of 3500mm×110mm×90mm made in Germany, the production cost of free forging is 77% higher than that of rolling, and the production cost of flame cutting is 16% higher than that of rolling. According to statistics from the former Soviet Union, compared with free forging, ring rolling reduces material consumption by 40%-50% and production costs by 75%. Using ring rolling to produce EQ140 automotive rear axle driven bevel gear forgings, compared with die forging, the material consumption of a single piece is reduced by 5kg, and the production cost is reduced by 20%.

6. High productivity

The rolling speed of ring rolling equipment is usually 1-2m/s, the rolling cycle is generally about 10s, the minimum cycle has reached 3.6s, and the maximum productivity has reached 1000 pieces/h, which is much higher than that of ring forging and flame cutting , Also higher than die forging productivity.
